Bo bun or the world’s best meal salad

Attention ladies and gentlemen, it’s about to start. The moment you’ve all been waiting for, the moment that has thrilled you all your life, the moment when we unveil our incredible Bo Bun recipe. Yes, you know, Bo Bun! The famous, trendy Vietnamese recipe! That magical little bowl filled with egg rolls, crudités and vermicelli.

So, for those who don’t know, Vietnamese Bo Bun is traditionally made with beef, but we’ve replaced it with seitan, and it’s superbly delicious. Deliciously good. And quite healthy too. It’s a bowl of rice vermicelli, topped with freshly marinated raw vegetables (carrots, cucumber, lettuce), fragrant herbs (mint, Vietnamese coriander, shiso…) and, above all, thin strips of seitan marinated in lemongrass and crispy egg rolls.

The whole thing is of course enhanced by a tangy sauce and crunchy toppings, notably peanuts.

– it’s great when the weather’s nice, because it’s a big salad after all.

– nickel when you’re a gourmand, because it’s so good !!!

– rather light (yes, it is), especially if the egg rolls are baked in the oven.

The Bo Bun has it all. So it’s a BonBoBun.

Bo bun: our tasting tips

In the original recipe, there are no egg rolls in the bo bun, but at home we’ve got into the habit of adding them. To play on the hot-cold effect, the filling of the bo bun is served cold, so the egg rolls can be reheated or eaten cold.

Enjoy.

The origins of Bo Bun

And finally, before you leave, a bit of culture! Do you know where Bo Bun comes from?

It’s probably not as typical as you think! In Vietnamese, Bo Bun isn’t called Bo Bun. It’s called bùn bo. Like beef vermicelli. And originally, they weren’t really egg rolls. It’s more likely that our Laotian and Cambodian neighbors popularized “Bo Bun” as we know it in France.

In Vietnam, the real Bùn Bo is a soup: Bùn bo-Hué.
